Meet the Doctors

Dr. Joel Hanson is the primary treating physician at Itasca Health & Chiropractic. 

About Dr. Joel~ After growing up in the western suburbs, he received a Doctorate of Chiropractic Medicine from National University of Health Science in Lombard. Prior to that he received a B.S in Business Management from Southern Illinois University. 

After being a collegiate water polo player and swimmer, Dr. Joel was left with chronic shoulder conditions. This sparked his fascination of the human body and musculo-skeletal conditions. The experience gave him the desire to want to help others who suffer with conditions that are difficult to diagnose and treat. He chose chiropractic medicine as a way to offer alternative solutions to complex medical problems and improve a person’s quality of life through diet, exercise, and nutrition.

Dr. Joel uses a 'whole person approach'. This approach to treatment means looking for underlying causes of any disturbance or disruption (which may or may not be causing symptoms at the time) and make whatever interventions and lifestyle adjustments that would optimize the conditions for normal function. Using this unique approach, Dr. Joel is able to help his patients accelerate and/or maintain their journies to good health.

Dr. Joel is a certified Elite Provider for Active Release Technique (ART) as well as certifications/Post Grad training in McKenzie Method, Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization and RockTape. Dr. Hanson remains active and enjoys CrossFit as well as triathlon sports. 

Dr. Joe received his bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from Elmhurst College and his doctorate in chiropractic in chiropractic medicine from National University of Health Sciences.  Dr. Joe is highly focused on empowering individuals to be able to take care of themselves through exercise, nutrition and chiropractic care.  Dr. Joe is also a licensed acupuncturist, offering alternative methods for relief and management of pain.  Dr. Joe enjoys exercising, hiking and exploring new places locally and around the world.
